Packing light for long trips
Posted by Marcelle Gosling on
I've had quite a bit of interest on Instagram and Facebook in what I pack when I travel. Specifically, in how to pack light for long trips but still have countless stylish outfits to put together.
So I thought I would share with you EXACTLY what I packed recently for approx. 8 weeks of European travel. Travelling is an amazing opportunity, a chance to make memories that last a lifetime and so the last thing you want to be doing on your big adventure is lugging around a whole lot of heavy suitcases.
For my current trip, my entire packed suitcase weighted in at just 9.8kg!
What do I pack?
Here's my comprehensive list.
In my luggage I pack:
2 long silk kaftans
4 short silk kaftans
3 pairs shorts
3 tops
White linen pant set
Green cotton top
Cotton wrap
4 pairs swimmers
2 strapless bras
2 normal bras
6 pairs undies
2 pairs sox
1 pair sandals
1 pair heels
1 pair short bamboo pjs
1 hat
On the plane I wear:
1 pair of sneakers - I like Frankie 4 footwear
Things to note:
The heaviest items are worn on the plane, but in layers so they are easy to take on and off as needed.
Silks are so lightweight, barely take up any room in your luggage but give you endless outfit options so they are a great travelling option. I wear the kaftans as tops with the resort pants, on their own as dresses, over swimmers, dressed up with heels to go out, with sneakers for sight seeing - the list goes on and on.
My bamboo pieces are fabulous quality so even though they look great during the day, the A-line singlet and resort pants can be teamed with heels (and maybe a short kaftan) and look just as stylish to wear out at night.
It's hard to pick a key piece but I think it would have to be my Nourishing Wrap. I wear it over swimmers, tied up as a top, tied around my waist as a skirt skirt or over my shoulders as a stylish wrap. I actually think the Nourishing Wrap needs a blog post all of it's own. I took some photos recently of all the different ways I wear it, so stay tuned for that one!
I hope that is helpful for your your own travel packing. You may also find my posts on capsule wardrobes will give you some extra ideas.
Still feel stuck about what to pack? I do private styling consultations at my Bulli boutique, why not book an appointment? I will be taking bookings again late September. Please don't turn up before then as my house guests won't be able to help you! :)
